Lost Dog Journeys 1,300 Miles Only to Find Out Her Former Owner No Longer Wants Her

It’s unclear how a gentle Pit Bull mix from Florida ended up on the streets of Michigan. She was shivering from the cold, hoping to be noticed.

The Humane Society of Midland County rescued her and brought her to safety.

The pup, named Blue, was relieved to be off the streets, and the shelter staff rejoiced when they discovered she had a microchip.

Digging Into The Details

They contacted the number registered to the chip, and a woman answered, stunning the staff by revealing that Blue’s home was in Florida.

According to the woman, Blue had gone missing a week prior, and she had no idea how the one-year-old pup ended up in Michigan.

The shelter staff were thrilled to hear that the woman wanted Blue back and immediately began searching for a volunteer to drive Blue home.

The shelter posted a plea on social media, and hundreds of people, moved by Blue’s story, offered to help reunite her with her owner.

Stephanie James was chosen to drive Blue across the country. After taking a vacation, James and her brother went to the shelter to pick Blue up. The moment James saw the sweet dog, she fell in love with her.

Blue’s New Friend

They all hopped into James’ Chevy Blazer and headed to Florida. Blue quickly bonded with them, resting her head on James’ shoulder during the ride and showering them with affection.

After travelling 1,300 miles, they arrived at the owner’s home, where the owner’s mom welcomed them. Blue’s 22-year-old owner wasn’t home.

Blue recognized her home instantly and eagerly awaited her owner’s return. She started jumping with joy as soon as she arrived.

They discussed how Blue might have ended up in Michigan. Blue’s owner and her mom explained that they had left her in a backyard kennel when they weren’t home.

Speechless

“She’s a very wiggly, very smart dog. They think she made her way near the freeway and someone picked her up,” James said.

After talking for a while, Blue’s owner shocked James by saying they should take Blue back to the Michigan shelter.

“She told me, ‘With me going to school full-time and working full-time, I can’t commit to the dog. You seem like good people. Blue really likes you. You’ve taken good care of her,’” James recounted.

James was speechless and wished the owner had said this earlier. She and her brother took Blue back to the car.

As they drove away, Blue kept looking back at her home, her face sad and confused.

“We said, ‘It’s gonna be OK, Blue, we love you,’” James recalled, reassuring herself that returning Blue to Michigan was the best thing for her.

James wished she could give Blue a home but she already had four rescue dogs. She was confident Blue would find a loving family soon.

On the way back, James called the Humane Society to inform them that Blue’s owner no longer wanted her.

Shortly afterward, the shelter posted an update on social media, informing Blue’s well-wishers of her situation. People were heartbroken to learn that Blue had been rejected.

Finally A New Home

However, Blue soon found a perfect forever home. The shelter was inundated with adoption applications from people eager to give Blue the love she deserved.

Two hours after James and her brother returned Blue to the shelter, Robert Allison, Blue’s new dad, rushed over to meet her.

Allison, who had recently lost his beloved Pit Bull, was looking for another pup. Upon hearing Blue’s story, he filled out an adoption application and was thrilled when the shelter invited him to meet her.

“When Blue saw him, she ran to his arms, and their connection was instant,” Allison said. He took Blue to her forever home the same day.

Blue was overjoyed in her new home and settled in immediately, showering her new family with kisses daily. James visited Blue, and they were both thrilled to see each other again.

Blue’s story had a happy ending thanks to James, the Humane Society of Midland County, and everyone who helped her find the immense love and affection she always deserved.
